Round 2 - Settling The Clan Name
CLAN NAME PROPOSAL

Submitted by the Council of Presidents of the Societies representing the families mentioned below
The Clan that comprises the surnames MacAfee, MacDubhsith, MacDuffie, Macfie/MacPhee, and certain other cognates is currently without an agreed Clan name, a Chief or a Clan Commander (Ceann-Cath).
In 2024 an attempt was made to settle the Clan name, which is the Clan’s first priority. This effort has been extended to a second attempt. Settling the Clan name must be decided by overwhelming consensus of Clan members before a Commander candidate may be presented to the Lord Lyon.
The second attempt to settle the Clan name is now underway. Historical information, research and the necessary Forms to submit an eligible member’s preference may be found at https://www.clannameandcommandersearch.com . All eligible members worldwide are asked to contribute by submitting their preference. The name recommended for the Clan is MacDubhsith as proposed by the Council of Presidents of all Clan Societies.
The deadline for submission is 30 June 2025.
Once the name is settled by an overwhelming consensus the Clan may start to search for a suitable candidate for the vacant post of Commander. This person will provide leadership, carry forward development of the Clan, and drive the process to identify a suitable Chief. The Lord Lyon King of Arms will be petitioned for authorization to convene a Family Convention to be held in 2026. At this event nominees for the position of Commander will be considered by eligible individuals of the worldwide Clan for selection as the final candidate to be presented to the Lord Lyon for approval.
The following Clan Societies have been asked by the Lord Lyon to propose an overall Clan name: MacDuffee Clan Society of America; Clan MacFie Society (UK); Macfie Clan Society in Canada; MacFie Clan Society of America; Thorburn-Macfie Family Society (Sweden); Clan McPhee New Zealand; and MacFie Clan Society of Australia.
